More about the formulation & uses

ThermKote 100Z uses graphite and carbon black in a resin-bonded film to move heat out of hardware instead of trapping it. The coating dissipates heat without outgassing — which is why lighting manufacturers use it inside sealed fixtures to shed heat and eliminate fogging when the fixture runs hot.

It resists thermal shock, including cold rain striking hot fixtures, and carries the family traits of Slickote solid films: corrosion protection, chemical and solvent resistance, impact resistance, and a decorative lubricating finish with a black-anodized appearance on aluminum castings.

Per its 2025 safety data sheet, the coating carries 0 lbs/gal VOC under AQMD Rule 1124.

Typical uses

  • Sealed lighting fixtures — dissipating heat and eliminating internal fogging
  • Hardware exposed to thermal shock in outdoor service
  • Anodized aluminum castings and other metals needing a decorative black finish
  • Assemblies where a zero-VOC coating is required

Heat dissipation without outgassing. Sheds heat from sealed assemblies without releasing volatiles that fog lenses or contaminate enclosures.

Thermal shock resistance. Withstands sudden temperature swings — including cold rain on hot fixtures — without film failure.

Zero-VOC coating. 0 lbs/gal VOC per the 2025 SDS under AQMD Rule 1124 — compliant where solvent-borne systems are restricted.

Corrosion, chemical, and impact protection. Provides corrosion protection with chemical and solvent resistance for metal surfaces, plus impact resistance.

Decorative lubricating finish. Gives anodized aluminum castings a black-anodized appearance while keeping a dry-lubricating surface.
